Our Organic Paints

When you first hear the words "milk paint", you might think that it s a new products, because you have never heard about such a thing. However, it is quite the opposite – milk paint has been used for thousands of years. Early settlers brought this method of paint making to North America more than 250 years ago. Basic ingredients include milk, limestone, clay, and natural pigments like coal, berries, roots, seeds and minerals. This resulted in a durable paint evident today by antiques showing the original milk painted finish.

Due to the fact that milk paints are more difficult to handle than regular commercially sold paints and due to the relatively long drying time for natural oils, usability of milk paints is very limited these days. It is unfortunate, because they provide very beautiful and healthy surfaces, be it furniture or other wooden items.

All our furniture and room décor milk painted items are custom made, so you can enjoy the luxury of picking any color offered by the manufacture, Homestead House Paint Co., which best fits your room. Alternatively, you can send us a picture of the room or area you are going to add our furniture or room décor to, and we will advise the best color combination. The color palette below shows all milk paint colors available.
