Donations by La Vie Orange

When our family first came to Canada, we noticed the increased attention that is shown to kids with disabilities. We highly respect those Canadian parents who have enough courage and patience to take care of such special kids.

We have five kids, two of whom were adopted from overfull Russian orphanages. Unfortunately, in Russia about 80% of kids born with disabilities are left behind in hospitals. It is hard to blame the parents, because life with a disabled kid there is a constant struggle for a decent place in the society.

In support of the changes for better in Russia, we donate 5% of our profit to a Moscow-based non-profit organization Downside Up. It provides support and advice for families raising children with Down syndrome, develops innovative children training and parents support methods, disseminates knowledge and experience among Russian professionals, and works towards raising public awareness about Down syndrome with the aim of changing attitudes. All Downside Up programs and services are free. Their staff is a small group of absolutely dedicated professionals who start working with the family while it stays in the hospital after baby delivery and continue with home visits every two weeks before the baby reaches 18 months. Then parents can choose from a range of group programs that are provided at the Center. Whenever we are visiting Moscow, we donate most of our kids' clothes to Downside Up families, and now having our own company, we are very happy that we can support them in a different way.
